You know she's
around when the WWF fans start chanting, "Lita! Lita!
Lita!" She's the redhead with the mean tattoo and high-waist
G-strings who's part of Team 3Xtreme. Like many World Wrestling
Federation (WWF) icons, Lita possesses that irresistible
charm that ordinary people can only dream to have in a million
years.
"Hi, I'm Amy. Nice to meet you." To the millions
and millions of WWF fans, she is simply known as Lita. No
last name -- well, probably Hardy? Away from the bright
lights and the 50,000 strong crowd chanting her name, the
26 year-old is just Amy Christine Dumas.
Since she started fighting the good fight with the Hardy
Boyz, Lita's popularity soared! She was in Singapore in
early February to help present the Favorite Breakthrough
Artist award at the first ever MTV Asia Awards, and she'll
be here again on March 3! The WWF superstars are stomping
into Singapore for the Far East Smackdown! Tour. Besides
Lita, other well-loved wrestlers like The Rock, Hardy Boyz,
Edge and Kane will be bringing down the house at the Singapore
Indoor Stadium on March 3!
When MTVAsia.com's EILEEN KEH met up with Lita, she was
careful not to antagonize the 5'7" WWF Diva. The lovely
Lita let us into her world before WWF, her favorite bands
and what she thinks of you, her wonderful fans!
We know there's going to be a Smackdown! Tour happening
in March, and the WWF will be touring Japan, Singapore and
Malaysia. Can you let us in on what the Asian fans can look
forward to?
A lot of the guys are going to be there, The Rock, Jericho,
Kane, Big Show, Hardy Boyz, Dudleys.
Triple H?
Erm, I don't think he's on the card... no. But, Ric Flair
will be here. We're all going be there and everyone is going
to be so excited. Hopefully the fans will be just as excited
as we are to be here.
You know, the most expensive tickets (S$400) for the Smackdown!
Tour in Singapore sold out really quickly and the front
rows of ringside seats are all taken up! In fact, some of
the WWF superstars like you are even more popular than Hollywood
stars. What do you think of this phenomenon?
It's amazing, it's hard to put it into perspective too
because we know our shows air all over the world and so
many people get to see us. I feel good that we're really
starting to come overseas and to explore. We're starting
to get to see some of the people that have been seeing us
for so long. Everyone's really excited and looking forward
to it.
You're one of the most popular female wrestlers at the
moment. Did you ever think that this was possible when you
first started out?
When I first started out I was just so excited to be there.
I didn't think about being the most popular or the best,
I was just excited to be there. But I felt the crowd responded
to me very quickly and I felt that they were refreshed to
see somebody that didn't look that typical, like in the
past. I think that I would enjoy the same, but I'm glad
that the people have come with it.
Tell us about the Lita before WWF.
The name Lita was given to me as I became part of the
WWF. Before that, I was with Extreme Championship Wrestling
(ECW) and played a really small role, where I had names
like Angelica and Miss Congeniality. I didn't do all that
much, it was more of a learning experience. I got to work
out with the guys (Hardy Boyz) before then, even though
I wasn't playing much of an active role in ECW, I was still
getting to learn. And before that, I wrestled in the independence
scene as well -- training with the Hardy Boyz and The Hurricane.
You know, a little bit of everything before I got to the
WWF.
What's it like meeting your fans?
Usually people can be overwhelmed. Sometimes they don't
know what to say or they're spitting out everything at once.
If they get a few minutes to talk to me, they calm down.
They see that we're all the same and they chill out a bit.
You were "seeing" Matt Hardy on-air and he dumped
you because you were siding with his brother Jeff during
their conflicts. Can the WWF fans expect to see you dating
Jeff on the show in the near future?
No, I don't think so. I think that the fans are waiting
to see if something is going to happen. But that's kinda
messed up to go out with somebody and date their brother
right after! So, I don't think so, we're pretty good friends.
Since we're talking about male wrestlers, who do you think
is the sexiest male wrestler of the moment?
I think The Rock has kinda taken things over!
Speaking of The Rock, he has a new movie coming out! Do
you think you'll ever venture into acting like him?
If an opportunity came to me and fell in my lap, I would
maybe consider doing it for sure. But, it's not something
that I think I would go out and pursue and look to because
the WWF keeps us so busy as it is and I have a great time
doing that stuff.
I understand that you used to play bass guitar for a band
called 3 Card Trick and you were also a roadie for a band
for a year! Since the WWF has a record label, do you think
you'll be releasing anything under Smackdown! Records?
I would love to do something with that! That's something
that I would actually spend more time into as opposed to
acting. I would have to be careful because Smackdown! Records
is just right there for me.
So whose music are you into right now? Who are you listening
to?
I've been really into a lot of the bands that are really
new this year like Linkin Park and P.O.D. But actually right
now, before I came here, I just bought "Paul's Boutique"
by the Beastie Boys cos I heard it on the radio. It's an
album before "License To Ill" and I've just started
listening to that. I had it on cassette and I just bought
it on CD.
You have an extremely busy schedule with the WWF. So when
you get the time to chill out, what do you like to do?
I like to listen to a lot of music. Working out is really
part of my life in general and a lot of time it's about
just squeezing a work out in when I can get it. But when
I have spare time, I love to spend all day at the gym, just
kinda taking my time with things.
Recently, what I've been doing with my spare time is...
I have a house and it's like empty forever. Just recently,
I started decorating it. That's been really fun for me,
trying new things, especially since I travel so many places
and get to see so many ideas and then kinda digest them
and put them into my house. So it has been fun.
Do you have a beauty secret to share with your female
fans?
There's one moisturizer I would never go without. It's
by Prescriptives -- it's call Vibrant. And it's got like
some magic stuff in there that makes you look not so tired!
(laughs)
Let's talk about your tattoos. You're probably known for
your mean looking tattoo on your right arm. Is there a story
to that face?
Nothing in particular. I was traveling in Europe, just
had the Euro pass and everything. I stopped in Amsterdam
and a friend had gotten a tattoo there so I knew the artist
and I just told him to let me be able to wear a short sleeve
shirt and have it covered and just go for it, whatever he
wanted to do.
A lot of people probably don't know about your two other
tattoos. The one on your back is virtually hidden by your
hair and the other one is completely hidden in your mouth!
You've got the word "Punk" tattooed on your lower
lip!
Yeah, it was painful, but it was over so quick.
Are you planning one getting one more soon?
I don't know. I don't plan on getting any other tattoos.
But, I kinda don't plan anything out so tomorrow I might
make a pit stop in Malaysia in a tattoo shop! (Lita went
to Malaysia a day after the MTV Asia Awards to promote the
Smackdown! Tour)
You have a fantastic job being a WWF Superstar. Before
you go, tell us how it feels to be standing out there, with
your entrance music and fans screaming in the background!
That's the best moment, right there. To walk out there
and once you get into the ring you can look around and you
see everybody's signs and even make eye contact with a couple
of people and see how excited they are. We definitely feed
off the crowd a lot, a lot more than they know, I think.
