Some random info: She was the first Women's
Champions, when the Women's Title was bought back, she has
held the title twice. She has been a professional wrestler
for over 10 years and has worked in WCW. She has shown herself
to be one tough woman. She was a female trainer on the WWF
reality show Tough Enough.
The world of sports-entertainment can be
a tough environment for any competitor. Historically a "man's
game," it is especially difficult for a woman to make
her name in the business. Therefore, any woman who not only
sets out to become a mat star, but prefers competing against
men, will have a rough road ahead of her. Perhaps that's
why Jacqueline's accomplishments are so impressive.
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Jacqueline
grew up watching pro wrestling and idolizing the famed Von
Erich family.
"They pretty much inspired me to become
wrestlers, to stick to it," she says. Her childhood
was far from privileged, but the emotional support of her
close-knit family more then made up for any financial lack.
After graduating from Booker T. Washington High School,
Jackie found herself working nine-to five in a department
store. She kept her wrestling hopes alive by training at
a local gym that housed a wrestling school run by Texas
legend Skandor Akbar.
"After my work out," she remembers,
"I used to go in the back and watch the guys train
and practice taking bumps, and I was like, 'If they can
do it, I can do it, too.'"
Not surprisingly, Jackie became the only
woman in Akbar's school. Consequently, all of her training
came from men, which resulted in a ring style that was decidedly
male. Many a tough lesson was administered by the wrestling
legend, and between the ropes, her fellow students treated
her like "one of the guys." Since those early
days, Jackie has preferred competing against men.
Using the name Sweet Georgia Brown, Jacqueline
made her debut in the Dallas-based World Class Championship
Wrestling in 1988. With the Von Erichs as headliners, World
Class had once been one of the hottest promotions in the
country, but by this time it was in decline, and Jackie
didn't stay there long. She soon moved to Memphis, Tennessee,
home of Jerry "The King" Lawler and the now-defunct
United States Wrestling Association (USWA).
It was in the USWA that she assumed the
moniker Miss Texas and began wrestling men on a regular
basis.
"A lot of the girls didn't want to
get in the ring with me," she recalls. "They said
I hit too hard, or I wrestled like a guy, so [the promoters]
said, 'Why not? Let's stick her in the ring with the guys.'"
Jacqueline competed in Memphis for seven
years, gaining a loyal fan following. While still there
she began sending out resumes and videotapes of her matches
to World Championship Wrestling (WCW), and in 1995 she received
an offer.
Debuting as a valet in WCW, Jackie used
her give name for the first time in her career. She now
found herself working outside the ring more then inside,
accompanying competitors like Kevin Sullivan and Harlem
Heat down the aisle. However, she's quick to clarify that
she was no ordinary valet.
"I didn't just stand there and try
to look cute. Kevin Sullivan used to throw a guy out [of
the ring], then I used to beat the hell out of the guy and
throw him back in. I [still] got a chance to show some of
my wrestling technique."
However, things eventually turned sour
for her. Jackie believes that certain men in power found
it difficult to accept a woman who could do all the things
she could do in the ring. When it came time for contract
negotiations, she was informed, without explanation, that
WCW had chosen not to renew.
The World Wrestling Federation, however,
was interested in her, and shortly after leaving Atlanta,
Jacqueline received a call from Jim Ross, the Federations'
Senior Vice President of Talent Relations and Wrestling
Administration. She started with the Federation in 1998,
back in her customary role as a full-time wrestler.
Mere months into her Federation tenure,
Jackie captured the Women's Championship by winning a tournament
held to fill the title's three-year vacancy. Although she
was the first African-American woman to ever win such a
major championship, she tends not to over-emphasize the
accomplishment.
"I'm happy that I was the first African-American
Women's Champion, that I can pave the way for other Africa-American
females. But I try not to look at it that way. I'm a champion,
whether I'm white, black, or whatever--I was that champion."
After losing the belt, Jacqueline entered
into a partnership with fellow Diva Terri to form PMS--Pretty
Mean Sisters. Although many male fans found the new faction
most appealing, Jackie was disappointed to discover that
it reduced her ring-time to a bar minimum.
"It was fun working with Terri, but
I'm very active--I like to compete more. It was too much
like being a valet--just standing there and not doing anything--and
that wasn't me. I think it was out of character."
After PMS ran its course, Jacqueline was
more than happy to find herself against competing on a full-time
basis. She enjoyed a second Women's title reign in early
2000, and also got to return to intergender competition,
challenging Dean Malenko for his Light Heavyweight Championship
last summer on an edition of Sunday Night Heat.
Jackie remains one of the fiercest competitors
in the women's division which, now more then ever, is bristling
with talent. With 12 years of experience under her belt,
she has seen many changes in women's wrestling. For her,
it's an unusual combination of increased athleticism and
increased sex appeal.
"It's more acrobatic now. We used
to use a lot of mat wrestling. Now, everybody's coming off
the top rope and using all kinds of objects. It's just more
action now. But we're also trying to use sex, and that's
fine with me. I just want to show people that I have talent,
that I can wrestle. I can go out there and look good, and
I can kick booty."
As one of the Federations' more athletic
Divas, Jackie has found herself in a unique position of
being both a feared ring warrior and a sex symbol. Balancing
the two has been a challenge that she enjoys.
"I think I can be both," she
declares. "But people think of me as being a tough
little bitch, a bad ass; I don't mind that. I think a Diva
is a female who's at the top of her game. I try to think
of being a Diva as something positive."
As she continued to be a top contender
for the Women's title, taking on equally tough opponents
like Lita and Ivory, this lethal beauty hopes to have the
opportunity to prove herself against male competitors in
the near future.
"I think I can compete with the light
heavyweights. There are a lot of smaller guys out there
who I can wrestle. I think I can take it to another level."
Since Chyna was released from the World
Wrestling Federation the Womens Title was vacant. Jackie
along with Ivory, Lita, Jazz, Trish and Mighty Molly all
wanted the title around their waste. So a match was set
pitting all of those ladies in a 6-Pack Challenge. But in
this match Jackie came up short and Trish covered Ivory
for the 1-2-3.

Jacqueline is one of the strongest, most
athletic women on the WWE roster. In fact, her athletic
ability rivals that of many of World Wrestling Entertainment's
men. On numerous occasions, she has been known to mix it
up in the ring with many of WWE's male competitors.
Occasionally, Jacqueline will rekindle
her competitive fire, competing in matches in the heated
women's division or teaming with male superstars for mixed
tag-team competition. But as of late, the beautiful Diva
has been spending some of her time as a referee, proving
her talent in another aspect of the game.
